Biography

Michael is a design practitioner with 20+ years experience across a wide array of fields including publishing & editorial design, typeface design, identity (with extensive experience in design for public transport), textile design, wayfinding, writing on design, design research and education.

He has worked with a similarly diverse array of clients and collaborators in Australia, the U.K. and Netherlands, including Uro Publications, Public Transport Victoria, RMIT University, Design Academy Eindhoven, Grafik and The Future Laboratory.

Project highlights have included presentation of graduating project ‘Many-Rooms’ as part of Dutch Design Week in 2020, editorial design for a number of Uro Publication projects such as ‘Influence: Edmond & Corrigan + Peter Corrigan’, ‘The Breeze Block Book’ and ‘Rogue: Art of a Garden’, typeface, wayfinding and textile design for Public Transport Victoria, editorial and identity design for Grafik magazine, 2011-2012, lead design for various periodicals including Architectural Review Asia Pacific, (inside) magazine and Wallpaper*.

Michael also writes about design, conducts and publishes self-initiated research projects and leads studios with students at RMIT University on a range of topics including wayfinding, editorial design and experimental typography. Michael most recently (in 2020) completed the Critical Inquiry Lab MA (previously Design Writing & Curation) at Design Academy Eindhoven.
