biography |
Michael (aka okinterrupt) is a design practitioner with 20+ years experience across a wide and varied array of fields—currently focusing on publishing, typeface design, education and research. Michael is also a recent graduate of the Critical Inquiry Lab MA programme at Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands and has been facilitating studios with MA and BA students at RMIT University since 2016 on a range of topics including publication design, typography, design legacies, way-finding and data visualisation. Michael has continued to maintain a freelance design practice since 2009. Commissioned work includes book design, type design, identity work, design for public transport, textile design, wayfinding, pictographic design, writing and research for a diverse array of clients, collaborators and studios in Australia, the UK and the Netherlands including Uro Publications, the Victorian State Government (Department of Transport and Planning) and RMIT University. Project highlights have included presentation of graduating project ‘Many-Rooms’ as part of Dutch Design Week in 2020, editorial design for a number of Uro Publication projects such as ‘Influence: Edmond & Corrigan + Peter Corrigan’, ‘The Breeze Block Book’ and ‘Rogue: Art of a Garden’, typeface, wayfinding and textile design for Public Transport Victoria, editorial and identity design for Grafik magazine, 2011-2012, as well as lead design for various periodicals including Architectural Review Asia Pacific, (inside) magazine and Wallpaper*. Michael also writes about design, conducts and publishes self-initiated research projects and maintains a design research focused Discord group under the banner of Res >^..^< aka Research Catalogue. |
